Coastal Virginia Candle Co. was born from a simple idea in a small home on Phillips Lane in Newport News, Virginia: candles are for everyone. Regardless of background, age, or identity—candles bring comfort, warmth, and a sense of peace to all. That universal love is what first inspired founder Sebastian Brock to start pouring candles in his kitchen back in 2018.
What began as a personal project quickly turned into something more. People didn’t just like the candles—they loved them. They came back for more, told their friends, and asked for new scents. This wasn’t just a hobby anymore. It was the beginning of a community-rooted, handcrafted candle company with a mission: to create beautiful, locally made products that bring people joy.
Originally known as Coral Bay Candle, the company evolved alongside its founder’s vision. In 2023, the name changed to Coastal Virginia Candle Co., reflecting deeper roots in the region and a renewed commitment to celebrating the coastal lifestyle and community of Gloucester County. While operations are based in Gloucester County, VA, additional locations are in the works across Virginia, North Carolina, Washington, D.C., and Maryland, as the brand continues to grow along the East Coast.
Every item—from candles and reed diffusers to Wax Pops and room sprays—is handcrafted right here in Virginia, with care and purpose. At the heart of each candle is a proprietary wax blend of food-grade paraffin, soy, and vegetable wax, hand-poured in small batches to ensure quality and consistency.

Founder & CEO, Coastal Virginia Candle Co.
Hey — I’m Sebastian. I’m originally from Gloucester, Virginia, and I currently live in Newport News, Virginia with my dog, Ranger, and my cat Carbon. I’ve spent the last 18 years in the restaurant industry, which means I’m no stranger to long days, late nights, and the kind of work that’s built on showing up and doing things right.
I’ve always been drawn to creating atmosphere — the way a space feels, the little details people remember, the moments that slow you down. That’s what pulled me into working with fragrance and led me down this path of making things by hand. For me, scent isn’t just background — it’s memory, comfort, and a sense of place.
Everything I make is done with intention. Nothing rushed, nothing mass-produced. I love that balance where things feel relaxed and coastal but still elevated — simple, but thoughtful. Most of my inspiration comes from everyday life: open windows, quiet mornings, stormy evenings, and that feeling of home you carry with you.
At the core of it all, I care about connection. Whether it’s creating something that lives in your space, collaborating with others, or helping someone bring an idea to life, I believe the best things are made when they’re done with purpose.
